Who's Behind Red Seam?
Dustin Davis: husband, father of four, baseball enthusiast, and web enabled.
Next to baseball, my passion growing up was computers. I had a knack for them. I could sit all day at a computer or video game - I still can. That's what makes my job so great.
In high school I took computer aided drafting classes thinking I wanted to be an architect. I was in a team of 3 that won a national VICA competition in computer aided manufacturing. After winning the competition, I got the feeling that I didn't want to do that kind of work, but rather build the tools to do that type of work. That is when I decided I would rather be a programmer.
After serving a two year mission, I moved to Salt Lake City and started attending Salt Lake Community College. After my classes ended, I would stay in the computer lab until closing to learn HTML. I was fascinated with web development. I continued to learn on my own adding skills in JavaScript, ASP, PHP, MySQL, CSS, etc. I did a lot of web development on the side, but it wasn't until about 5 years later that it actually became a full time job. Still, I enjoy my side projects.
I know my strengths and weaknesses. Design work is fun, but it is time consuming and not my greatest strength. Now I often outsource this part of the work and focus on the back-end. The design you are looking at here is the work of an artist much more talented than I, for example.
